Construction is one of the oldest industries in existence, but even it continues to evolve to meet the growing demand of our changing communities. We continue to see larger, more complex projects redefine our industry’s practices and standards. These advanced projects require construction companies to evaluate their traditional methods and tools to ensure they are still meeting safety and productivity standards while tackling monumental builds.

The Weitz Company values safety above all else and the Weitz safety team is constantly looking for new methods and technology to ensure its jobsites are the safest sites possible. One of the most recent and promising innovations in this space is the Pillar Smart Sensors, a technology designed to enhance safety, protect critical equipment, and improve project outcomes.

The Pillar Smart Sensors technology improves jobsite safety and helps prevent potential quality issues.  Environmental issues can cause significant problems on a construction site. Factors such as temperature, humidity, dust, and ambient light can pose safety hazards in the field. Ensuring the jobsite remains safe requires the use of multiple devices to monitor these conditions. On some jobsites, these environmental factors can also impact the construction process. Sensitive equipment can be damaged by excessive dust or high humidity, leading to delays and additional costs.

The implementation of smart sensors can significantly mitigate risks by providing automatic trend reports for temperature, pressure, and six other airborne conditions via text, email, or through the Pillar app. This product has shown great success in a variety of different building types such as Data Centers, large Commercial buildings, multi–family housing, and more.

The Weitz Company is already seeing positive effects of the Pillar Smart Sensors on our jobsites that has led to safer working conditions through increased ventilation, better lighting, and noise reduction in potential problem areas. With Pillar Smart Sensors ability to detect hazards in real-time, these sensors offer a higher level of protection for everyone. As smart technology continues to evolve, Weitz expects these sensors and other technology to play an even more significant role in enhancing safety across the company and the construction industry.
