Investing in the Future: How Project Destined is Transforming Colorado’s Next Generation of CRE Leaders

By: NAIOP Colorado, DEI Committee

NAIOP Colorado has proudly served as a continued partner of Project Destined, helping bring an immersive, hands-on real estate experience to students across the state. This program is opening doors and creating pathways for aspiring professionals to explore careers in commercial real estate, many for the very first time.

Through Project Destined, students gain exposure to the full lifecycle of real estate development. They evaluate active projects, conduct underwriting, build pitch decks, and present their findings to seasoned executives in a "Shark Tank-style" format. Beyond the technical knowledge, students are also developing soft skills like public speaking, leadership, and strategic thinking, all within a team-based environment that mirrors real-world collaboration.

“This program showed me that there’s a place for me in this world.”

What makes this program especially powerful is the personal impact it leaves on each student. Many entered unsure of their place in the industry. They left with a sense of belonging, purpose, and excitement about what comes next.

“I had never thought of real estate as a path for me, and now I can’t wait to learn more.”

With support from NAIOP Colorado and industry leaders, participants are not only gaining knowledge but also building relationships. Site visits, mentorship, and speaker panels connect students with professionals who share their career journeys and lessons learned, making commercial real estate feel accessible, attainable, and full of opportunity.

Nationally, over 70 percent of Project Destined alumni secure employment within a year of completing the program. This is a testament to how effectively it bridges education and career readiness. Locally, the momentum continues to grow as more students engage, more companies get involved, and more impact is made with every cohort.

This progress is only possible thanks to the generosity of the commercial real estate community. If you believe in shaping the future of the industry and investing in those who will lead it next, we invite you to join us in supporting Project Destined.

Together, we are building a stronger industry, one student, one opportunity, and one project at a time.

Donations can be made at projectdestined.com to help fund programming, mentorship, and training opportunities for students across Colorado and beyond.
