Karen Van Heukelem
Business Developer, Colorado Hardscapes, Inc.

Karen currently works as a Business Developer for Colorado Hardscapes, Inc. Growing up in the family decorative concrete business at Colorado Hardscapes, she has the construction industry engrained in her culture. Karen returned to Colorado Hardscapes 3 years ago after getting her undergraduate degree and worked as Marketing Director for 2 years. Her experience at Colorado Hardscapes ranges from estimating, sales, marketing, administrative, and inventory. Karen has been in the industry for a total of 10 years.

Colorado Hardscapes does work primarily for commercial properties. As a result, Karen's interest grew in the Commercial Real Estate industry in order to gain more understanding of the needs and trends within the industry.

Karen earned her BA in Business, with a minor in English from Trinity Christian College. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree from the University of Denver in Organizational Leadership with and emphasis on Environmental Policy and Management. She is also a LEED AP.

In addition to Karen's busy schedule, she recently joined the NAIOP team at the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) workday at the City of Axum Trail construction event. She also sits on the Community Relations Committee as well as the Green Series Committee for NAIOP Colorado.

Karen is the proud single mom of a 2 ½ year old daughter who keeps her very busy. As a native of Colorado, she loves the outdoors, especially this time of year, in the Fall. Karen likes to take day trips to the mountains, traveling, visiting family, the arts and of course, a good glass of wine.

Karen says that her proudest achievement thus far, other than her daughter, is being able to attain LEED AP status, continuing her education and contributing to the family business. A recent project that she worked on with Colorado Hardscapes was Asbury Green, partnering with Keiwit, Nuszer Kopatz and MacKenzie House.

Through the accumulation of great partnerships and relationships, Karen aspires to help expand and innovate Colorado Hardscapes. She hopes to continue to be involved in associations such as NAIOP and within the community.

Adam Faleck
Sales Associate, Margenau Associates, Inc.

Adam is a Sales Associate for Margenau Associates, Inc. (MAI), where his job focus is addressing speech privacy issues. Adam provides MAI's Architectural Design Customers with Continuing Education Seminars to educate and update them with all new technology and acoustical best practices. Adam's knowledge of acoustical application and design allows him to bring a value-added approach to MAI's design/build clients.

Educationally, Adam holds three AOS (Associates in Occupational Studies) degrees and attended Jones Real Estate College.

Adam began his professional career in real estate 6 ½ years ago. He was initially interested in residential real estate, until a friend told him how great commercial real estate can be. As Adam says "I jumped in with both feet." Adam has spent his time working for 3 of those years in tenant representation, and found his way in to solving acoustical issues for tenants. He has created a more productive and comfortable work environment for many clients in the last 3 ½ years.

In addition to Adam's busy work schedule, he spends his time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Bonfils. Adam also enjoys spending time with his family, his wife and 2-year old daughter. He is a self-proclaimed chili expert who enjoys time spent in the kitchen as well as observed trials motorcycle riding, skiing and photography.

Adam's other professional interests include acoustics practices, real estate, architecture and art. One of his proudest achievements has been winning deals on quality, performance and customer service. Adam wants to be sure that every office user has the benefits of MAI's products and services.
